Bow And Arrow And Spear
While aboriginals have spears, the Torres Strait Islanders, like quite a lot of the rest of the ancient world, had bows and arrows. while the spear was good for killing animals at medium distance, the bow and arrow are good at killing animals from any distance, they're lighter and the arrow is much, much faster. People only really could carry one spear while you can carry lots of arrows so killing animals is much faster than with a spear.
A spear is a pole weapon consisting of a shaft, usually of wood, with a pointed head. The head may be the sharpened end of the shaft itself or it may be made of a more durable material fastened to the shaft, such as flint, obsidian, iron, steel or bronze. In the aboriginals case it was usually stone that was sharpened into a point.
Bow and arrows, however, is a short stick. The head is usually a more durable material fastened to the shaft, such as flint, obsidian, iron, steel or bronze. The bow and arrow can go much faster and is much more accurate. plus, strong people use spears because they are heavy but weaker people can use bows because they aren't nearly as heavy.
If the aboriginals wanted to fire into a European boat they wouldn't be able to because spears cant go that far while Torres Strait Islanders could because the bows and arrows can go that far. As you can see bows and arrows were much better than spears, but were they as good as Muskets?
